Last Minute Nerves

It is May 29, 2012 just two days away from when I want to be able to piece together Tom’s version of my book so I can buy the proof and then change it a week later, get my proof and then my five free copies.
I am sitting here just overwhelmed, because I keep hearing people say
“I am getting published by the (fill in the blank) company.””
“I just release my millionth book . . .  it’s better than my first 999,999 other books, because it’s the millionth book.  It’s really the same story, but now told by the computer’s view.” LOL.

I just want to know: Are they the same people who came write a book in a month and then edit the next month? What kind of quality are their books really? Are the big publishers interested or are only the small publishers and self publishers pushing these books?
How do I get into the big leagues?

Anyone can tell a story, but not just anyone can write a book . . . it takes time, determination and a good support team when you get rejected.  I heard many different versions of that quote all of my life.

Then I was told you need money to create a book. I knew that main publishers charge you for editing and promoting services, but they usually take it out of their cut of the royalties. (If you get a bad contract, they can take a bigger cut than you expect.) However I there have been so many people pushing me to get professional editor. I have seen editor price by the hour, the page or even the word. The cheapest editor I have seen was 1.50 per page if I had my measure my pages it’s around 500 pages 6×9 or 200 pages, a standard computer page. So prices could be from possibly 300 to 750 dollars. (I take care of my disabled boyfriend, so I don’t have time to get a job.)

My book last word count was 160k so even at 1.5 cent per word it would be $2,400 to edit that. If I paid that much for editing it better go on New York Top Seller list on the first week.

I had someone look at part of my book for free and I was thrilled. However yesterday I got a page and half letter back yesterday (which nice to know someone puts the time to read a part of my book and can still have that much to say about it.) I just felt like was a letter “your family would like it, but . . . the huge but. . . it’s not dark enough, the ghosts are lame, there flow isn’t there, the grammar still isn’t writeß haha, I meant right, your voice is off, (fill in your excuse here) etc.

She did love my prologue, just was a huge relief.

I just keep asking: “When will my book be good enough to publish?”

Camp NaNo

I am planning on participating in CampNaNo(www.campnano.org) in June. (They have two one in June and one in August, but I can’t do August since I have so many other things going on in that month like Tom’s birthday.)

I am what they call rebelling which means I doing something I already started instead of starting a new project. I am usingCampNaNoto finish getting my first vampire novel (1 of 7, possibly 8). I am also working several other short stories that I really want  to finish.

Darken Cake (A parable for an ex that I meant to finish in 2007)
CSC Book 1 Melzela (My first vampire book)
There are a many short stories I want to finish I will post the list later.

I am not as devoted to CampNaNo as I am with NaNoWriMo, because it’s summer and if I have friends that want to go out or I get a chance to enjoy the summer, I am taking it. I do hope that I get to 50k. It would be nice, but this is just to motivate me to get my vampire story on the computer.

A nightmare from my book “The Whispering Path”

Lucy ran into the meadow of roses, the same meadow that had attacked her and Lyric in a previous dream. She sat on a bench in the meadow and cried while yellow, white and red flowers wilted and changed into blue and purple flowers.
Lyric walked by her and sat down crossing his legs at the ankle.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I don’t know it’s your dream.” He shrugged.
“I need to be over… you,” She stood up and he mimicked her.
“It’s only been 8 months; I’m not that easy to get over. I’m still trying to get over myself.” He made a joke, which she knew wasn’t like him. He laughed; she was just annoyed.
“Stop it!” She screamed.
“You never cared about all of the things I did for you or the fact that I was trying to make you happy.” Lucy barked.
“It wasn’t your job. We were just hanging out,” Her disenchanted look stopped him.
“But it was more to you, wasn’t it?” He found energy to ask. She looked away; she took a deep breath and ran out of the meadow and away from Lyric. She ran into the woods where there were four female ghosts: three from the legend of the screaming words, and her stepsister. Several females in black cloaks walked out of the shadows chanting, but Lucy couldn’t tell they words; it was as if they were speaking in another language. There was flash and a fire appeared in the middle as Jack was across from where Lucy stood. There was about two dozen of random people ambled in making Lucy feel enclosed, trapped. She wanted to run, but she felt stuck as all she could was watch.
Kelly walked into the light from behind Jack in transparent, smoky robe. She danced with Jack as the chanting got louder. Then Lucy saw the shiny silver dagger in his hands as he stabbed Kelly in the heart. He pushed her into the fire as the flames sparked and burst into a huge black and blue flame. Lucy then noticed Sophy, Clifford, Kate, and Daisy all spiritually tied to tree in each direction. Daisy was north; Clifford was west; Sophy was south and Kate was east.
Lucy didn’t know how to rescue anyone; all she knew at the moment was she wanted to escape herself. She took all of her strength and focused on moving and before she knew it she was running. She got about twenty feet away from the group when she tripped on the uneven ground and fell. She felt something was on top of her as she could sense their shadow; she struggled and screamed.
Lyric grabbed her arms as she sat up.
“Are you okay?” Lyric asked; they were the only two in the back room.
“Where is everyone?” Lucy asked in shock.
“They’re busy,” She noticed that Lyric had a bump between his nose and cheek.
“However someone wants to see you!” Lyric stated as Jack strolled into the room.
“What? No! Go away!” Lucy panicked. Jack and Lyric laughed as their eyes turned red. They grabbed her while she screamed and threw punches; they laughed it off.
Lucy screamed; Valin shook her to wake her up.

Editing update

I currently have four chapters (about 30-40 pages) left of editing “The Whispering Path.”

I have to buy a proof for Tom (my boyfriend) , but this time I want to make sure he gets the credit for taking the picture of my neighbor’s yard. I also want to give my neighbor credit for using her yard.

Then I have to get another proof my way of all of the changes I made. Then I get my five free copies: one I give my mom and another one to my neighbor. Then I will have three copies left.

I want really want to get published by a mainstream publisher, but I need to find a good agent/editor and find away to pay them or do all of the work myself. Next month I think I will post on Amazon.com. . . I need to look into what kind of rights they have and how you get paid. (I basically want to know if I can take my book off amazon, if I get a mainstream publisher.)
